People lose sense of propriety and shame for petty wealth, fooled by pride. The twisted brows of the rich reveal the disease of insatiable greed.
Even a needy king should not accept unworthy gifts; nor should a wealthy king discard even the smallest worthy gains.
A king who accepts the unworthy and rejects the worthy displays weakness and faces ruin both in life and after death.
The desire rooted deep within, without beginning or end, consumes like fire born without cause—leading to ruin.
Only when inner impurities are cleansed through merit does one attain rare fruits—like Savitri’s grace or clear rain from cloudless skies.
The Vedas are pure without tradition; a Brahmin without vows is impure; falsehood is man's impurity; for earth, it is the Mlecchas (foreigners).
Without a leader, or with too many, all perish. Those led by women or children also decline—reflecting on governance, not gender.
One should not live in a place without leadership, with many leaders, or led by women or children—warning against unstable governance.
A man who mismanages wealth, is alone, quarrelsome, gluttonous and sickly—meets quick ruin.
