Beware of even those who appear harmless, for harm may arise from unexpected quarters. The wise stay alert always.
Even what seems harmless may conceal danger; suspicion from a suspicious person may destroy the very roots of peace.
If wealth (Śrī) doesn’t favor an honest, detached, gentle, loving, and expert man—it is the goddess Śrī herself who is deceived.
A noble person is pure in heart, grateful, compassionate, committed to dharma, and stays away from backbiting and corruption.
He who constantly says “mine, mine” regarding food, clothes, wife, relatives—becomes prey to Time, like a lamb to a jackal.
If one seeks food and clothes in Varanasi through immoral means, then even the holy Ganga becomes a stream of burning coal.
A dog, though unworthy, is rewarded for mere food-gratitude. But a villain, even if greatly helped, does not become a true friend—like a creeper never...
As food is necessary to activate the senses, so is wealth essential for all actions. Hence, wealth is called the root of all means.
In youth, time is lost in eating and desiring; later, in disorders and worries—thus life slips away unutilized.
The unprotected kingdom, like the heart of evil men—unguarded and new—is invaded and enjoyed, just as trees shelter the helpless.
